Peter Saxton

Peter was born in Hull, Yorkshire. He moved to London in 1973. After leaving Hull Grammar School he spent five years in the costing department of Spooners, a building construction company, in Hull. During this time he studied Accounts at "O" and "A"-level standard on evenings and obtained top grades. Next he studied full-time for an Accountancy degree at City of London Polytechnic (now London Metropolitan University) and obtained an Upper Second Class Honours Degree. He then commenced training with Whinney Murray which soon changed its name to Ernst & Whinney and is now the international firm of Chartered Accountants, Ernst & Young. After four years in public practice Peter worked for a subsidiary of Grand Metropolitan (now called Diageo) for four years and worked at Bow Valley Petroleum for five years (during this time they were bought by British Gas - now called BG Group). In 1986 Peter started his own practice and twenty nine years later is still using the same name!

Urszula Saxton

Ula, as she is called, is fifty-four years old and was born in Lublin, Poland. She studied for a Diploma in Physiotherapy at Lublin Medical School between 1979 and 1982. This was a busy period of her life because in 1980 she was married and in 1982 her daughter, Izabela, was born. After receiving her diploma she joined the army and worked in various hospitals as a physiotherapist. In 1985, after the breakdown of her marriage, she left Izabela in the care of her mother and came to London where she met Peter in 1989. In 1991 she returned to Poland to apply to return to the UK with Izabela and marry Peter. It was not until 1992 that they were able to enter the UK and in February 1993 she married Peter. Ula found that, although she had extensive theoretical and practical knowledge of physiotherapy, she would have to complete a four year degree course before she could practice physiotherapy in the UK. Ula felt that she wasn't willing to start over again and suggested that she helped Peter with filing and other administrative tasks. It quickly became obvious that she was a real asset due to her hard work and practical attitude. It didn't take long for Peter to teach her the basics of bookkeeping and how to use several accounting packages and now she plays an important role in the firm.
